This is a comprehensive guide to a range of influential theorists and examines the relevance of their ideas to current early years provision for all children. The theorists include psychologists, such as Maslow and Rogers and practitioners, such as Malaguzzi and Montessori as well as academics such as Laevers and political activists, such as Freire. Whatever their background, these theorists have profoundly affected and shaped thinking about the learning and development of children with additional needs and inclusion of all children in early years practice. The book also includes chapters on other essential aspects of inclusive practice: partnership with parents, hearing and visual impairment, assistive technology and multi-professional working. The importance of observation and assessment, listening to children and how emotional intelligence influences children s learning is also highlighted. With clearly laid-out text and easy to dip into, this book is an essential read for anyone concerned with education of young children with additional needs.
