Discover a World of Adventure, Passion, and Ancient Traditions
What happens when love, ambition, and danger collide in a world shaped by powerful traditions and fierce rivalries?
Child of Storm by H. Rider Haggard, the author of King Solomon's Mines and Allan Quatermain, is an adventure novel set in southern Africa. The story follows Umslopogaas and the people whose lives become entangled in conflicts involving love, loyalty, ambition, and the struggle for power. Against a dramatic background of tribal rivalries and political intrigue, Haggard creates a tale filled with intense emotions, difficult choices, and unexpected dangers.
This LEXIS edition presents the story as an English learner's adaptation for Level B1, making the novel more accessible to intermediate readers who want to enjoy classic adventure fiction while improving their English.

Love, Loyalty, and the Struggle for Power
At the heart of Child of Storm are complicated relationships and conflicts that test the characters' courage and judgment. Personal desires collide with loyalty to others, while ambition and rivalry create consequences that reach far beyond individual lives.
Haggard combines adventure with themes of love, jealousy, courage, loyalty, leadership, and the consequences of personal choices. The result is a dramatic story for readers who enjoy historical adventure, powerful characters, and narratives in which emotions can be just as dangerous as external threats.
The novel also offers an opportunity to reflect on how people respond to conflict, how relationships shape decisions, and how the desire for power can influence human behavior.
Designed for B1 English Learners
The language has been adapted for readers at approximately CEFR B1 level. The aim is to make the story easier to follow while preserving its central characters, important events, conflicts, and adventurous atmosphere.
Whether you are studying independently or looking for additional reading material alongside your English lessons, this edition helps you practise through a continuous narrative rather than disconnected examples.
