Item description from seller

5 issues, representing all that were published, of this Chicago pre-fire publication. A constructed set, with Number 1 being in the original illustrated wrappers and numbers 2-5 bound together contemporary 1/2 leather with cloth, worn, front board detached. Internally fine. This set contains numerous uncolored portraits and views of buildings. An early Chicago publication with a wide range of articles, including Chicago history, politics, and other non-Chicago literary and informational articles. Running through the first three numbers is a long, documented history of the Mormons under title: “The Salt Lake Valley.” There are many plates of towns in the Middle West and the articles include historical data on the Old Northwest and Iowa. Graff 867, Sabin 12625. Not in Mott or McMurtrie. Surprisingly, also not in Byrd (Illinois Imprints 1814-1858) or Flake (Mormon Bibliography). Byrd 2655 mentions Chicago Magazine in a note to a map also published by Gager.
