Print on Demand. Drawing upon archaeological findings and historical records, this book investigates the pre-Columbian era of the Cherokee people, a Native American tribe historically residing in the Southeastern United States. The author traces the tribe's roots to the Ohio Valley, using evidence such as oral traditions and archaeological similarities. By examining artifacts like engraved shells and soapstone pipes found in burial mounds, the book connects these ancient remains to the Cherokees, providing insights into their customs and beliefs. The author also explores linguistic and geographic data to support the theory that the tribe migrated southeastward over centuries, eventually settling in their historic Appalachian homelands. This book offers a unique perspective on the Cherokees' rich history, shedding light on their origins and cultural practices before European contact. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

This edition presents a methodical look at burial vaults, grave goods, and temple-like structures, while comparing Ohio and southern mounds to build a cohesive picture of early peoples in North America. It also examines how native traditions intersect with archaeological finds to shape our understanding of pre-Columbian times.
- Learn how mounds were built, what the layout and artifacts reveal about their builders, and how scholars interpret these clues.
- See comparisons between different mound types and what they suggest about cultural connections and movements.
- Explore how shell ornaments, copper ornaments, and stone conforms contribute to the broader story of ancient America.
- Understand the challenges of dating events and tracing migrations with limited evidence.
Ideal for readers of archaeology, Native American history, and early American studies who want a careful, evidence-based view of the Cherokee and their prehistoric context.
