A separate issue from Practical Chemistryby George Gore, M. Sparling and John Scoffern. A fascinating study of the history and chemistry of artificial light, its functions compared to those of animal and vegetable oils. Chapters feature information on combustion and flame, laws of light and heat, candles and lamp oils, gas and more.Illustrated with sketches of lamps and other apparatus in text throughout.From the library of Sir Arthur Elton, 10th Baronet and author of 'British Railways in the Britain in Pictures Series published in 1945. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally generally sound with minor shelf wear and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, light sunning to the boards and spine. Minor chipping to the head and tail of the spine. Previous ownership inscription to the front pastedown, 'John R. Taylor'. With Arthur Elton's bookplate to the front pastedown. Front free endpaper to p. vi loose but present, hinges slightly strained, holding firm, the text block generally firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean. Illustrated with sketches of lamps and other apparatus in text throughout. Good.
