It’s 6 a.m. when Detective Alan Windsor gets the call that his best friend, Marshall Guenther, has been murdered. Marshall, a history professor at the University of Cincinnati and a well-known chess master, has been found on the floor of his study next to a cryptic message written in blood.
# K 2
Beginning his investigation in Marshall’s home, Alan discovers his friend’s unpublished autobiography, which reveals a trail of intrigue stretching back to Marshall’s service with the US Army during the Vietnam War. The trail weaves through dense jungles in Cambodia, attacks by the Khmer Rouge, secret underground tunnels, and the fabled lost chess set of American chess icon Paul Morphy.
When the police make an arrest, the case appears to be closed. But Alan’s instincts, honed by years of solving murder cases, compel him to continue the investigation. Follow him in real time for eleven days as he struggles to decipher the meaning of “# K 2” and avenge the murder of his closest friend.
