Print on Demand. This book presents a collection of humorous short stories narrated by Charles, a charming and quick-witted chauffeur. Through his witty observations and often perilous adventures, Charles paints a vivid picture of the early 20th-century New York high society. The author captures the essence of the era, with its rapidly changing technology and evolving social norms, through the eyes of a man who is both an insider and an outsider in this glittering world. Charles's keen eye for detail and knack for getting into comical situations bring to life the eccentricities and foibles of the wealthy elite. From navigating the challenges of driving a newfangled automobile to dealing with the romantic entanglements of his employer, Charles finds himself in a series of misadventures that highlight the absurdity and excess of the time. The book delves into the themes of love, ambition, and the pursuit of happiness. Charles's relationships with the various characters, including his employer, her suitors, and even his fellow servants, offer a nuanced exploration of human nature and the complexities of social hierarchy. Through its witty and often poignant stories, this book provides a unique and entertaining glimpse into a bygone era, while also exploring timeless human experiences. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

You should of saw how sweet her mouth looked when she smiled at me. I made up my mind years ago that I would never get mar ried, knowin' how a man's wife often keeps him down if she can't rise to nobler things with him. My uncle Amzi was a warnin' to me in that respects. Uncle Amzi made a great mistake by marryin' a woman who hadn't the soul to rise with him. She was all right as the wife of a farmer, but when he outgrew the farm and moved to town to run a livery stable she wasn't the woman to take her place beside him in society.
