"This passionate and atypical collection celebrates vagabonds, free as birds, the destitute with their sad orgies and cruel hunger, as well as the wine-drinking womanizer François Villon and the freedom-loving bad boys who accompanied him. La fin des gueux (The End of the Beggars), whose fiery and earthy verses earned the author a conviction, shows the poet's despair in the face of loneliness, which, beyond passion and pleasure, will end his journey. Wine and love play a major role in the work" (Pierre Berès, cat. 81, Passionnément littéraire, no. 207).
