In Change Your Environments, Dr. Eric Berg turns the modern health conversation completely on its head. Drawing on decades of clinical experience and deeply rooted evolutionary science, he reveals a radical but intuitive truth: your body isn’t malfunctioning—it’s responding exactly as it was designed to, in a modern environment it was never meant to survive.
Through eye-opening patient stories and clear biochemistry, Dr. Berg exposes the phenomenon of ancestral mismatch—the massive biological gap between the world your body adapted to over two million years and the artificial one you live in today. He shows how everyday modern conditions—dim indoor days, bright LED nights, ultra-processed foods, hidden seed oils, continuous digital stimulation, and social isolation—are quietly rewriting your hormones, metabolism, gut barrier, and mood.
The resulting fatigue, stubborn weight gain, chronic inflammation, and brain fog may feel random, but they are the direct consequences of a world out of sync with human nature.
This is not a diet book. It’s not a willpower test. And it’s not about adding more restrictive rules to your chaotic life. Instead, Dr. Berg introduces a groundbreaking framework: The Environment First Principle. Change the physical and digital signals around you, and your biology will transform naturally. No hacks. No extremes. Just a smarter way to tilt the hill so that healthy choices become your effortless default.
Inside the book, you'll discover:
- The Environment Audit: A comprehensive, 10-minute baseline tool to pinpoint exactly which hidden stressors are dragging down your health.
- The 9 Essential Environments: A master map breaking down the interconnected loops of your life—including Food, Light & Sleep, Movement, Chemical, Microbiome, Cognitive-Dopamine, Social, Workspace, and your foundational Nutrient Infrastructure.
- The Cascade Effect: Why fixing just one upstream environment causes downstream symptoms to heal on their own without you ever touching them directly.
- The 12 Master Rules & Reference Protocols: High-leverage, plug-and-play blueprints for navigating the grocery store, travel, holidays, restaurants, and stress-eating triggers with zero willpower required.
- The 14-Day Clock Reset: A strict, 5-step environmental sequence to anchor your circadian rhythm and end 3:00 AM wakeups within a single week.
- Bonus Health Assets: Step-by-step guidance on utilizing the wellnessMAP digital interface, alongside Dr. Berg’s 36-hour L. reuterihome-fermented yogurt recipe for an oxytocin and nervous system reset.
Smart, empowering, and refreshingly practical, Change Your Environments offers a liberating new path forward. Stop pushing the boulder uphill. Rebuild your architecture, change your signals, and watch your body naturally return to the vibrant health it was always meant to enjoy.
