For centuries, the Welsh have created wooden spoons carved with romantic symbols to give to their loved ones, and the history and techniques of this romantic tradition are revealed in this easy-to-use handbook. With more than 30 patterns featured, including wedding, birthday, and Celtic Cross designs, and an illustrated guide to traditional symbols, beginners and experts will learn how to create and carve their own love spoons. A practical checklist of necessary materials, step-by-step instructions, and colour photographs guide carvers through to the finished product. This replaces ISBN: 1561082398.
About the Authors:
A native of Bridgend in South Wales, Sharon Littley worked for 25 years in office administration, but now teaches adult education classes in woodcarving and computer studies. Primarily a self-taught carver, Sharon is currently enrolled on a City & Guilds woodcarving course led by highly respected woodcarver, Dick Onians. Now semi-professional, she has a successful small business, Heartwood, which runs workshops and fulfils commissions.
Clive Griffin was born in Neath, also in South Wales. He trained and was employed as a carpenter and joiner. He later switched to a career with BP but was forced to retire early due to ill health. He now carves for enjoyment, assisting Sharon with her business when he can. He is thrilled to be involved with this book.
