When Confederate forces opened fire on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor on April 12, 1861, the first shots of the Civil War shattered any hope of peaceful resolution. President Lincoln's call to arms echoed across a fractured land, and from farms, factories, and frontier towns, ordinary men answered-unaware that they were marching toward the bloodiest conflict in American history. This is their story. The Cauldron of War plunges you into the heart of the American Civil War through the eyes of those who lived it, bled for it, and somehow survived it. Follow Tom Donal and his brother John as they leave behind everything they know to join a regiment bound for glory-or destruction.
