Print on Demand. This book is an insightful exploration of the archives of the Alsatian city of Mulhouse from the late medieval to the early modern period. Especially significant is an analysis of the 15th-century conflict between the city and the ruling Habsburg dynasty, which culminated in the alliance of Mulhouse with the Swiss Confederacy in 1515. The author presents a vivid narrative drawn from both local and international sources to show how the city defended its autonomy and negotiated its status as an independent city within the complex political landscape of the Holy Roman Empire. Through the lens of a single town, the book illuminates the broader social and political dynamics that shaped the development of urban communities in Central Europe during this transformative period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. …
