Scatcherd became member for Middlesex West in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada, 1854 58. He later represented Middlesex North as a Liberal member of the House of Commons of Canada from 1867 to 1876. The studio of Ellisson and Co produced elegant portraits, dispensing with extravagant studio backdrops to use conventional props like the drapery to Scatcherd's right in this photo.
