xxxiii, 385 p. 22 cm. B&w frontispiece and other b&w plates. Fold-out map. Burgundy cloth with gold lettering. Some dents in dedges. Ink inscriptions on front endpapers. Pencil underlining and thumbing. During the sixteen years he spent in Labrador, Captain George Cartwright kept a journal; this is the abridged version of that diary, first published in 1792. The explorer described flora and fauna, icebergs, the Hudson's Bay Company, the early fishing industry, and life on Canada's inhospitable northeast coast. Introduction by Wilfred Grenfell.
