W. W. Norton & Company, 1987. Softcover Book in Very Good Condition. Edited by Darwin T. Turner. The text in this Norton Critical Edition is the 1975 edition published by Boni and Liveright. As noted elsewhere in this volume (p. 237), the original edition in 1923 printed a single arc on a page preceding the first page of "Karintha". That design appears in this edition. Clean and unmarked illustrated orange and gray wraps have faint wear to edges, tight and solid binding. Pages are quit clean, with 2 pages having a penciled note in margin and1 p with underlined text. The growing interest in African-American literature that began in the 1960's led to the rediscovery of earlier African-American writers, one of whom is Jean Toomer, author of "Cane". Originally published in 1923, "Cane" is generally considered a literary masterpiece of the Harlem Renaissance, part drama, part poetry, part fiction, all evoking black life in the South. The sketches, poems, and stories of black rural and urban life that make up "Cane" are rich in imagery. Darwin Turner's Introduction presents historical and literary background to the work, and also biographical information on Toomer. Includes a Selected Bibliography. x, 256 pages. 8.4 x 5 x 0.5 inches. 1987, W. W. Norton & Company. ISBN: 9780393956009 0393956008.…
