Featuring contributions from some of Canada's leading experts in family sociology, Canadian Families Today: New Perspectives is a comprehensive introduction to the sociology of the family. Seventeen contributors from across Canada examine a wide range of topics to introduce the sociological study of families, provide up-to-date information about various stages and events in the life course, and discuss current issues faced by Canadian families. Each chapter in the third edition is new or revised and includes updates based on data from the 2011 Census as well as new research and updated, relatable examples. The third edition also includes new chapters on definitions, theories, and methodologies (chapter 1); the history of families in Canada (chapter 2); intimacy, commitment, and family formation (chapter 3); parenting young children (chapter 4); and aging in Canadian families (chapter 7). Chapters are supported by a wealth of pedagogical features including chapter learning objectives, "Case in Point" boxes, study questions, lists of further reading, lists of relevant websites, and a glossary.
