About this Item
Cruise menu dated 24th January 1925 printed on card stock, with an illustration of the R. M. S. "Niagara", and customized to celebrate the birthday of a passenger. The RMS Niagara first gained notoriety in 1918, when many feared that the ship was carrying the deadly second wave of the influenza pandemic to New Zealand, because it had arrived in Auckland 2 weeks before the city was hit with the disease. During WWII the ship was given a secret mission to haul eight tons of gold bullion from Auckland to Vancouver, BC, to pay the United States for munitions used by Britain. The ship was sunk by German mines along with the gold, which was not recovered until 1953. The menu listings in French; printed on the verso "Aahmes Temple, South Sea Island Cruise, 1925". 3 x 6 1/2". Seller Inventory # 21072
