There are approximately 18 million alcoholics in America.
Millions more have some form of behavioral addiction.
More than half a million Americans have died of drug overdoses from 2000 to 2015.
Heroin and prescription drug overdoses have now surpassed caraccidents as the number one cause of injury-related deaths in America.
Over 100 Americans die every day from opioid overdoses.
Called To Be Free is not just another book about addiction.
Addiction is a multifaceted problem which must be addressed onmultiple levels: biological, psychological, and spiritual. The vastmajority of addicts are adult survivors of broken, dysfunctional, andabusive homes. The nature of unhealthy homes, the abuse they spawn, andthe consequences of child abuse are discussed at length. Additionally, practical advice is provided on a wide variety of topics, such aslearning to forgive those who hurt you, dealing with the angerunderlying the hurt, and developing a sense of personal worth.
Above all, Called To Be Free seeks to guide those struggling withaddiction to the true Higher Power, the God of the Bible, and theforgiveness, healing, and salvation that are available only through thegospel of Jesus Christ. To this end, the book includes chapters whichdiscuss the nature and love of God, the reality of sin, the necessity of Jesus' sacrificial death, and the resources God makes available tothose who obey the gospel. The reader will discover that God offers farmore than merely learning to cope without one's personal addiction. Godis willing and able to deliver us from addiction, and help us lead lives characterized by love, self-control, and self-respect.
