A dilapidated orphanage, sickly and starving children, horrid living conditions…this is what this couple found on their initial trip to the orphanage in danger of being shut down by the government of Tanzania. Leaving heartbroken, they prayed how they might help. This is a story of great courage and mercy as Ronald and LouDell answered the call of God becoming grandmother (bibi) and grandfather (babu) to the orphans. Ronald and LouDell Posein never thought they would find themselves in such a forgotten place, yet are so eternally grateful to serve God and save these lovely children.
This book reveals God’s absolute best, His love, His power, His grace, even giving the children a new floor of marble. God created a palace in the wilderness where children grow knowing they are loved first by God and by others.
Tanzania is an underdeveloped third world country and readers will learn much from the author as he describes history, the landscape, and the culture, which is far different from the U.S. or Canada. The story of Starehe Children’s Home is nothing short of miraculous. Initially twenty-eight orphans from the beginning, children were either abandoned or orphaned as the AIDS crisis tore through the country. These children were the fallout from this epidemic. Readers will be introduced to a beautiful country with wonderful people where poverty abounds.
First battling the impossible in obtaining the land for the orphanage, then the rebuilding and bringing recovery to direly sick children back from the brink of death, the authors give insight into what it took to bring health, happiness, and the love of Christ to these dying children. Their stories will always be remembered.
God worked miracle upon miracle. Readers will witness God’s hand in providing completely for His children, for He is a Father to the orphans.
The lives of Ronald and LouDell Posein reveal scripture as written in the book of James 1:27, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”
An unforgettable journey into the heart of God and a must-read book.
