Original publisher's brown wrapper with staple binding. 7" x 10 1/4." Twenty-four unnumbered pages, complete. Black and white illustrations, complete. Illustrated advertisements, most of which relate to music, are on the inside of both covers. A few ads are on the interior pages. Blue stamp of the California State Library in upper-right corner of the front cover. Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Two vertical fold lines, most apparent on front cover. Among the businesses and products advertised are Byron Mauzy, The American Clothing Association, Benj. Curtaz & Son, A. Repsold & Co., Conover Pianos, F. W. Spencer & Co., Overland Monthly, Joe Poheim, Kohler & Chase, and Sherman, Clay & Co. The California Musical Journal was founded in 1895. It contains a variety of topics, such as news of the latest and upcoming events, news about musicians, and music theory. The following are some of the articles and features in this issue: "Music Teachers' National Association," "A Few Practical Harmony Lessons," "A New Copyright Law," "Manuel Garcia," "Replies," "Local Items," "Pacific Coast Notes" [news from California towns], "Eastern Items," "Foreign Items," "Concerts," "Correspondence," sheet music for "Por Quien Suspiris Mazurka," "Margherite's Waltz," and "Cadence and Common Chords in the Key of C, as Used for Accompaniments," "Oakland Branch," "The Lamoureux Orchestra," "Singing in Tune," "What Is Classical Music?," "Theatrical," and "Professional Directory.".
