Ferguson, a gold miner originally from Ohio. Ferguson gives a detailed narrative about his journey from Ohio to California's gold fields and recollects many harrowing parts that happened along the way. Sullivan in his Foreword, "[Ferguson's account] is a well-written document of a most picturesque section of the mines. It is one of the best of the early mining histories on the Yuba and the early days in Nevada City." Introduction by F. T. Wallace. Back colophon: 'Seven hundred and fifty copies of this book have been printed at the Times-Star Press, Alameda, California; Designed by Ben Kennedy; Presswork by William R.
