Item description from seller

The first in what would become a series of delightfully illustrated picture books for young readers in Victorian England, each containing 4 stories with pen-and-ink sketches & numerous full-color plates. Caldecott's work would later be honored with the creation of the annual award for children's book illustration that bears his name. No date, though orig. published in 1879. Unpaginated (approx 130 pages). Hardcover book is an EX-LIB copy from a migrant preschool in Alamo, Texas, with stamps & markings in front & rear. Light cream-yellow reinforced binding with decoration to front cover. Exterior shows soil & remains of old call number sticker to spine; outside edges of text block soiled. Interior is generally quite clean: all illustrations are present, clean, & unmarked, though 5 pages show tearing. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
