Item description from seller

Original staple bound printed wraps 22 x 28cm. Printed by Harrison & Sons, London. 24 + (2)pp including several b/w photos and technical drawings. Covers very good, foxed and dusted. Interiors very good. Staples rusting, and sections starting to come loose. The Calcutta was built for the Mediterranean leg of Imperial Airways' England to India route, from Genoa to Alexandria. It was adapted from the military Singapore Mk.1, with 7 built, and it first flew in 1928. This contains Short Brothers' own description (dated July 1929) with extracts from the Royal Air Force official test report, and the detailed description originally published in "Engineering" (17 Aug 1928). The photos show its launch, afloat, cabin, buffet and steward's compartment, hull interiors, construction and testing, and various details. The drawings show the overall design, as well as the various components.
