About the Author
I have been a teacher of spirituality and self-help for over 15 years. I’ve taken people on sacred retreats all over the world on cruises, to pyramids and – one of my favorites- to Bali. In the past I’ve written non-fiction books on manifesting, Shamanic Egg Cleansings, and such, but I’ve also had a long, hungry romance with novel writing.
In the winter of 2009 I started to feed this hunger when we went to live in the European-like, cobble-stone paved town of San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. The town is fun and magical. We rented a beautiful house in the middle of a terribly poor neighborhood – weird – where people’s horses lived in their living rooms (our house had beautiful picturesque windows, no hay)! Any way, something clicked because I’d awake in the middle of the night writing short stories.
Then this year, 2016, in May I started to see Sam talking with her therapist, Dr. Rosenthal. Every time I’d sit and write what I saw, I’d watch my story unfold before me. I have been taken by my characters (hope you are too) and I look forward to entering their world to see what they are doing and what is happening to them. For example, one character that took me by surprise was Sebastian, the gay barista. I thought he was an ‘extra,’ like the actors in a movie who might not even have a line.
What fascinates me about my writing process is two-fold: first, that my work in energy and spirituality have taught me to tap into the world of imagination and creativity, where my characters are born.
Second, since I am, first and foremost, a teacher of spirituality, I can’t help but have ingredients of spirituality (which has a lot to do with self-help) into the mix. How that all comes together is like magic; some would say that I actually channel most of my books.
As such, (for those of you interested in spirituality/self-help) Sam’s journey to improving her life is subtle, but it’s in there. Her issues are far from subtle, right? This is because everyone lives with their issues all of the time. Most people ignore these… Well, in Sam’s case, she’s trying to confront her issues, sort-of, and she’s trying to do everything the ‘right’ way in life (which never works).
Thus, I’ve imbued some spirituality and self-help into my writing. Not that I think I could have written a novel without doing so, it comes out of me all over the place because it’s just who I am.
