ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
"When God naps, we whores are the candlelight."
Ditching their birth name of Leonardo and sporting an androgynous look, the protagonist of This Body of Mine is stuck in Tijuana after being conned by their border smugglers. Calling themselves Mónica and informally adopted by woman named Rosy, they soon master the tricks of this new world, a place of betrayals, euphoria and addiction. A few years pass and Mónica transitions from the relative safety of the city's motels to the dangers of the streets and the Jungle, the most sordid and notorious corner of Tijuana. Exhausted and drained, and with their mother's voice in their head, they decide to cut their losses and head home. The journey is hellish, but the homecoming is a blessing and a chance at a new beginning.
This Body of Mine is a daring and honest novel full of humor and music, love and sisterhood, but also hatred and pain. It describes a world of drugs, danger and hypocrisy; silicone, sequins and stilettos; sex in alleyways, hotels and cyberspace. Through his headstrong but tender protagonist, Uri Bleier will make you smell the street, taste the seaside breeze, and tap your toes to a cumbia beat.

About the Author
