It is Monday morning at 6:15 AM. You stand on-site, coffee going cold in your hand, looking at an empty delivery bay. Your look-ahead schedule promised that installation of a critical package would start today. Everything looked perfect on paper, but the materials simply are not there. There is no site crisis quite as helpless as waiting on late materials. The workfront is ready, your crane is on hire, and your schedule is bleeding money—yet you are completely powerless. When the dust settles, you find out the project didn't fail because a supplier lied. It failed because of "late discovery"—discovering a procurement bottleneck only when the site is already standing still, rather than months earlier when you actually had runway to fix it. On a high-pressure commercial jobsite, procurement cannot be treated as a passive, administrative purchasing function.
Procurement is not support for the schedule—procurement IS part of the schedule, with its own critical path, float, and ability to stop your project cold. In Construction Procurement & Material Control, seasoned construction veteran Daniel R. Whitmore delivers a definitive, field-tested operating system to stop discovering material problems at the gate. This is not an academic purchasing textbook. It is a practical site-trailer manual for project managers who want to build a bulletproof material control system.
Ditch the 400-Row Spreadsheet Trap Follow project manager Alex Morgan as he fights to stabilize his site’s broken material pipelines. Alongside site superintendent Miguel Santos, commercial manager Rachel Kim, senior PM Priya Shah, and overloaded procurement manager Jordan Lee, you will learn how to run a highly disciplined 6-stage pipeline: Need - Approve - Order - Produce - Deliver - Verify. You will discover why trying to track hundreds of line items on an alphabetical spreadsheet with equal intensity is a recipe for exhaustion. Instead, you will learn to apply procurement triage to isolate the 5 to 20 critical-path items that can actually shut down site progress.
Take Absolute Command of Your Project’s Supply Chain
- Plan Backward, Not Forward: Stop starting from today's date and hoping. Calculate a strict chain of latest allowable dates working backward from the site's true physical need date.
- Control Submittals Promptly: Stop letting crucial shop drawings stall in review for weeks; a late approval is simply a future delivery delay wearing a different name.
- Make Your POs Executable: Prevent disastrous site errors—like steel plates fabricated wrong due to one stale drawing reference—by verifying technical completeness before release.
- Demand Evidence, Not Reassurance: Ditch useless "on schedule" vendor promises and track physical fabrication milestones backed by hard evidence.
- Protect What You Bought: Establish rigorous receiving gate-checks and storage controls so environmental exposure does not quietly destroy your materials on site.
- Procurement Package Control Sheet
- Backward Procurement Planning Sheet
- Procurement Responsibility Matrix
- Material Shortage & Exception Register
- Weekly Procurement Control Meeting Template
- And 14 other high-impact, spreadsheet-compatible tools.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
