The Complete Professor Challenger Stories brings together all of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s adventures featuring Professor George Edward Challenger, one of the most memorable characters in early science fiction. While Sherlock Holmes represents Doyle's rational detective side, Challenger embodies his fascination with scientific discovery, lost worlds, spiritual mysteries, and the limits of human knowledge. Professor Challenger is a brilliant, volcanic, and immensely self-confident scientist. Described as large, bearded, aggressive, and intolerant of fools, he is often at odds with colleagues and journalists. Yet beneath his confrontational exterior lies an adventurous intellect and a fierce commitment to truth. Many readers regard him as one of the prototypes for later scientific adventurers and explorers in modern science fiction. Ref A7 3.…
