If you own a compact tractor and a few acres, you already have more than you think. You just need to know how to use it.
Most hay production guides are written for two-hundred-acre operations with equipment the size of a house. This one is not. The Compact Tractor Hay Guide was written specifically for the small-acreage owner, the hobby farmer, and the self-sufficiency-minded landowner who wants to cut, dry, rake, and bale their own hay using the tractor they already have.
Inside, you will learn exactly how to:
- Match your tractor's horsepower and PTO output to the right mower, rake, and baler, without overspending on equipment you don't need
- Read your hay's growth stage so you cut at the perfect window between yield and quality
- Dry and cure hay safely, avoiding the mold and spontaneous combustion risks that ruin entire cuttings
- Set up storage that protects your investment through every season, barn or outdoor
- Calculate your true cost per bale, so you know whether producing your own hay actually saves you money
- Decide with confidence whether to feed your own livestock, sell your surplus, or scale up entirely
Written in plain, practical language with real-world troubleshooting for the problems small-acreage producers actually face, this guide walks you through every stage of the process, from soil testing before your first cutting to maintaining your equipment through its tenth season.
Whether you are feeding a few horses, supplementing a small herd, or simply tired of depending on someone else's schedule and someone else's hay quality, this book gives you the knowledge to take that independence into your own hands.
