Date of 1837 in gilt at foot of spine and also shown in gilt below the author name on spine. Turn ins also elaborately decorated in gilt. Turqoise blue endpapers. Distinguished old bookplate on front paste-down endpaper shows the previous owner's library with fireplace. If that is the way his library looked, he was a man of great wealth. The binding of this book shows that as well. Book profusely illustrated with comical illustrations. Contents bright and clean. All edges of text block are gilt. As fine a copy inside and out as can be imagined. Hood was an apprenticed engraver and also a journalist, and he is believed to have been responsible for the entire content of his comic annuals, which were first printed in 1830.
