There he was appointed professor of internal medicine and head of the cardiac catheter laboratory. In 1993, he accepted a call to the chair of internal medicine (cardiology, pneumology, angiology, and internal intensive care medicine) at the University of Cologne. From 1997 to 2010, Prof. Erdmann as Vice Rector for Research represented the interests of the University of Cologne in the German Rectors’ Conference. For more than 20 years, he was the editor of the German Medical Weekly. In 2006, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class. Since 2012, Prof. Erdmann has been emeritus and has since worked as a member of both the ethics committee of the medical faculty of Cologne and the NRWreview commission for medical malpractice. He also publishes the continuing education journal Kompakt Kardiologie in the Biermann publishing house. The “Clinical Cardiology” was founded by Prof. Gerhard Riecker in 1975.
