nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The complete story of China in one illustrated volume: from the first millet and rice villages to the world's largest nation today.Across 75 chapters this book follows the Chinese past through bronze kingdoms and the age of philosophers, the first empires of Qin and Han, division and the arrival of Buddhism, the splendor of Sui and Tang, the commercial Song, the Mongol century, Ming and Qing, the fall of the empire, war and revolution, and the People's Republic. You will meet kings and chancellors, generals and poets, merchants, farmers and monks, and see how the frontier, the rivers and the climate shaped what happened. This is also a book about how people lived. Separate chapters explain how Chinese builders raised rammed-earth walls, timber halls and pagodas, how families ate, dressed, worked, studied, worshipped and buried their dead, and how craftsmen made silk, porcelain, bronze, paper and ink.Every chapter ends with The Historian's Verdict, a clear look at what the evidence proves, what it suggests and what remains unknown, and the hardest chapters of the twentieth century give death-toll estimates as ranges with the sources behind them. Cultural interludes cover writing and calligraphy, tea, silk and porcelain, and the four great inventions. Appendices give rulers and officials, a timeline, a guide to the evidence, a list of terms and a cast of people.…
