Square 8vo. 6 inches. pp ii, 40. 4 full-page & 15 colour printed illustrations. No date [1881] Lucy Lane Clfford, better known as Mrs. W. K. Clifford was a children's writer, novelist, journalist and dramatist - the wife of the philosopher William Kingdon Clifford. A contemporary review (THe Times 1883) says: "Most charming. The pictures are very pretty and the children represented in them like real children as they are to be seen in nurseries. The excellent stories of L.C. display a delicate fancy, and will be read with pleasure, for their literary merit, by grown people as well as children." The illustration style is very similar to Kate Greenaway but with a sweetness of its own Neat name on front endpaper dated 1898. Sound near vg copy slight cracked at rear hing, withe edges and corners rubbed.
