Item description from seller

Two manuscript documents. 4to, each one page, approximately 250 words total, docketed on blank verso. Mitchell writes, in part, "I hereby certify that I have heard Major Fisher's explanation of the materials he employs in preparing his warranted Razor Straps . I have found the apparatus admirably adapted for shaving" and Mitchell adds, in part [following a description in another hand of "Fisher's New Improved Razor Straps Warranted"], "[Fisher] has communicated to me the Composition of his Chemical paste." Macneven and Mitchell qualify as among the most important American scientists of the day; Macneven opened the first chemical laboratory in New York (1815) and Mitchell published works on chemistry and mineralogy, helped found scientific societies, and served as a U.S. Senator from New York. The two scientists joined with others to open the Rutgers Medical College in 1826. Both documents folded, but very good.
