This listing is for four black and white photographs, each 4" x 2 5/8", of the world premiere of Union Pacific, a Cecil B. DeMille film from Paramount Pictures. The premiere took place in Omaha - setting of the beginning of the railroad, constructed in the late 1860s. The epic film opened in late April 1939, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the completion of the track's construction, and in one of the photos, the cast of the film, in period dress, playfully nail a giant railroad spike, to emulate the action seen in the movie. (It is unclear which cast members are present in the photo.) The famous golden spike from Promontory Summit was actually lent to the film's production from Stanford University, where it is still on display. The film's premiere was part of a four-day event, "The Golden Spike Days Celebration" of the railroad. Stars Barbara Stanwyck and Joel McCrea took a whistlestop tour by train, along with director Cecil B. DeMille, from Hollywood to Omaha. President Franklin Roosevelt inaugurated the event by pressing a telegraph key from the White House, and parades, banquets and radio broadcasts further promoted the anniversary. The largest film premiere in history, a quarter-million people were drawn to the city, briefly doubling its population, and the National Guard had to be called out to maintain civic order. On the other side of the Missouri River, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, a monument was erected in the shape of the spike, and it stands there today. The other three photos show downtown Omaha, including the festive marquee of the Omaha Opera House (the film actually premiered in three Omahamoviehouses simultaneously); nearby establishments have been cleverly dressed in Hollywood-style wild-west facades: the Cigars-Tobacco store has an "1841" date on it, and the Staple and Fancy Groceries is even more elaborate: it announces: "Eggs and Buffalo Hides Taken In Trade", "U.P. Checques Cashed Here", "Goods Delivered to Steamboats", etc. Photos in excellent condition, glossy, no creases or fading.

Statutory Right to cancel
You have the right to cancel this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the the last good or the last lot or piece.

You may use the attached model cancellation form, but it is not obligatory. You can also electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". If you use this option, we will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a cancellation on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the cancellation deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right to cancel before the cancellation period has expired.
Effects of cancellation
If you cancel this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to cancel with contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to us or House of Mirth Photos, 116 Pleasant Street, Suite 142, 01027, Easthampton, Massachusetts, U.S.A., +1 4133203830, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your cancellation from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
