The principles of that government are incorporated in the Constitution of 1787. Now let it be the office of the women of the South, working through the combined efforts of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, to teach those principles to the rising generation. . the Daughters of the Confederacy [will] be building the greatest of all monuments, a thought monument, to the brave men of the South who gave their service, their fortunes and their lives in defense of the principles of constitutional liberty. A monument builded, not of stone, but of thoughts of honor and reverence in the living, pulsing hearts and active brains of their descendants. The association's purpose is to commemorate the Confederate soldiers who fought in the Civil War and fund the erection of memorials to these men.
