Item description from seller

8vo. 36, [1], 2, [1]pp. With a half title. Two states of this pamphlet exist, this with catchword on p.21: period. Includes two final leaves containing 'Names of the officers .' and a 'correct copy of the court martial held on Captain Inglefield'. Verso of final leaf is publishers’ advertisement. In modern paper wraps with finger soiling/foxing at foremargins. Several leaves with old creases at corners. Very good. Concerns the sinking of the ship Centaur after it sailed from Jamaica and the vivid hour by hour description of the ordeal and improbable survival of the crew after drifting for 16 days by her commander, Captain John Nicholson Inglefield. This harrowing tale was reprinted in several editions through the 19th century. Scarce. [Shipwrecks - Atlantic Ocean] ESTCT19910.
