DON'T BUY THAT FRANCHISE (UNTIL YOU READ THIS)
Before you wire the deposit, read this book.
Every year thousands of capable people buy the wrong franchise for the right reasons. The founder was likeable. The brochure looked good. The trade show was convincing. What they never did was read the disclosure document, call a single existing owner, or run the numbers on the one location they would actually own.
They rarely fail because they lack talent or effort. They fail because they chose badly, with incomplete information, under pressure from someone who was paid to close them.
This book is the process that prevents that.
Drawing on twenty years of guiding first time buyers through this decision, senior franchise consultant Atul Pathak turns franchise diligence into something you can follow step by step. Every chapter ends with a checklist or a worksheet, so by the last page you hold a personal readiness profile, a real budget, a scoring system for your shortlist, and a 90 day action plan with a decision gate at every stage.
Inside you will learn how to:
- Score your own readiness honestly, before you spend a dollar
- Understand how franchising actually works: royalties, territories, terms, and what the franchisor genuinely owes you
- Build a real budget covering the franchise fee, build out, working capital, and the reserves most buyers forget
- Read a Franchise Disclosure Document without a law degree, and know which items matter most
- Ask franchisors the questions they quietly hope you will skip
- Run validation calls with current and former owners, and hear what they are really telling you
- Compare SBA lending, ROBS, and self funding without guesswork
- Recognize the mistakes that quietly sink new owners in year two
- Execute a 90 day roadmap from first inquiry to signed agreement
Who this book is for
Corporate professionals planning an exit. Immigrants and families building something durable in a new country. Couples investing together. Investors adding an operating business to a portfolio. Anyone who has typed "franchises for sale" into a search bar late at night and wondered whether it could really work.
Franchising is not the right path for everyone, and this book says so plainly. What it promises is that you will know which one you are, and why, with reasons you can point to.
You are not buying a brand. You are buying a system, a relationship, and a decade of your working life. Choose accordingly.
Start with Chapter 1. Ninety days from now you will either hold a franchise agreement you trust, or the certain knowledge of what to prepare before you try again. Both are worth more than a deposit you cannot get back.
Educational content only. Not legal, financial, or investment advice. Always review the Franchise Disclosure Document with a qualified attorney and accountant before committing funds.
