Burriana: A Catalogue of Rare Books, Pamphlets, Letters, Manuscripts, Documents & Objects by, About, or Relating to Aaron Burr And His Contemporaries – Brian Davon Hardison collection, The Grolier Club, New York, 2012. 306 pp, hardcover in blue buckram, limited to 500 copies. This exhibition catalogue of 524 items was issued for a Grolier Club special exhibition “Aaron Burr Returns to New York: An Exhibition on Burr and His Contemporaries” held at the club from May 15-July 28, 2012. Hardison focused on a single subject but included material from associates and other contemporaries. Only a portion of the collection is autograph material. The presentation and interpretative context of items produce a catalog that reads more like a biography than a bibliography. The catalog is a useful reference resource and an example of how to think about building a distinctive collection. Illustrations are limited. This copy is in excellent condition with dealer’s pencil notations and price on the first blank page.…
