The Burnt Million by James Payn Complete in Three Volumes, Chatto & Windus, London, 1890, half leather., 7 x 5 , 12mo. In good condition. Light wear to extremities with minor scuffing to corners and end bands. Spines slightly lightened from fading, minor dryness at end bands. Armorial bookplates of Sir William Gordon-Cumming, 4th Baronet on pastedowns. Interiors are lightly toned with minor instances of finger-soiling. Leaf 65-66 is loose in volume three. Free of known markings. Bindings are tight and intact. A sound set. Please see photos. Provenance of Sir William Gordon-Cumming (1848-1930) was a Scottish landowner, solider, adventurer and socialite. He was the center of the epic royal baccarat scandal of 1891.
