Excerpt from Bulletin of the New York Mathematical Society, Vol. 1: A Historical and Critical Review of Mathematical Science; October 1891 to July 1892
IN presenting this, the first volume of the bulletin OF the new york mathematical society, the editors feel that they should express their deep sense of the obligation under which the encouragement and active assistance of the members of the Society have placed them. The interest which the Journal has excited, both in this country and abroad, shows how real is the need of a historical and critical journal, devoted to mathematical science, and published in the Eng lish language. It is to be hoped that in the future the bul letin may be able to extend its work, and ever the more adequately occupy the field which it is its aim to cover.
