9pp extract, printed in double columns, illustrated with 15 photographs, salvaged from a damaged issue of The Strand Magazine, Volume XIV, No. 79, August, 1897. Illustrations include a house being towed on Humboldt Bay, California, the house after removal of the lighters, the house being pulled on rollers to its destination in Eureka, California, a brick house in Brooklyn, New York, moving on greased ways with horses and capstans, a scene of lifting the house by means of jack-screws, moving a bank 300-feet at Newton, Massachusetts, across an electric railway, a block of three buildings being turned from a south to a north front showing turn-table and old foundation in the foreground, an apartment of 8000 tons in Chicago, Illinois, being moved, preparing the site, a double-brick residence in Chicago, being turned from north to south, a 125-foot-high chimney being moved across a street in Chelsea, Massachusetts, raising a water-tower at Mount Vernon, New York, moving a railway station back 50 feet at Mott Haven, New York, and a scene of six locomotives pulling the Brighton Beach Hotel back from the ocean, April 3rd, 1888, with the entire building resting on 112 flat-trucks.
