Print on Demand. This book explores the geological history of the British Isles from the perspective of geotectonics and geography. It examines physical conditions in each geological period, focusing on the rocks formed during these periods to determine the relative positions of land and water. The author employs evidence from shallow- and deep-water beds, variations in thickness, and unconformities to reconstruct the geography of past eras. The book traces the succession of physical and geographical changes that led to the current disposition of land and water in northwestern Europe, highlighting the evolution of the British Isles from ancient landmasses to the islands they are today. Through detailed analysis and discussion, this book sheds light on the dynamic processes that have shaped the geological landscape of the British Isles over millions of years. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

HE Object of this volume is the geological history of the British Islands regarded from a geotectonic and geographic point of view, that is to say, it does not deal with the rock-groups of which our islands consist, so much as with the physical conditions under which they were formed, the rocks themselves being described only so far as is necessary for ascertaining whence their component materials were derived, in order to form some conception of 'the relative position of land and water during each of the successive periods of geological time.
