Are you running a business you can sell or do you own your own job?
In Build for Sale!, business valuation expert and CFO Gary K. Aldridge reveals a hard reality that approximately seventy percent of businesses never sell and simply close their doors. Why? Most business owners evaluate their company through the sentimental eyes of a founder/owner rather than the critical eye of a buyer. They suffer from the value gap, the massive disparity between what an owner thinks the business is worth and what a buyer is willing to pay.
Inspired by his grandfather’s sudden exit from a business due to health reasons, Aldridge delivers a practical, step-by-step guide designed to help you find more cash now and maximize your company’s value when you exit later.
Packed with real-world case studies and actionable financial exercises, Build for Sale! breaks down exit planning into five clear phases:
- Phase 1: Detach emotionally, close the value gap, and determine the exact valuation numbers and timelines you need.
- Phase 2: Rate and lead your team, eliminate operational bottlenecks, and leverage technology to build a turnkey business that runs without you.
- Phase 3: Uncover hidden profits in your P&L, optimize key performance indicators (KPIs), and master the "Rule of 3%" to drastically boost EBITDA.
- Phase 4: Unlock cash trapped in working capital, leverage debt effectively, and protect your company from internal and external risks.
- Phase 5: Avoid post-exit regret by defining your purpose, meaning, and legacy for your next chapter.
Whether you plan to sell in six months, five years, or just want to run a more profitable, scalable enterprise today, Build for Sale! provides the playbook to ensure you leave nothing on the table.
