Illustrated by historical designs and scenes from the Bible Lands.' PAGES, gilt edged: lxxi/ 71 (Introductory section with background information, including 'Memoir of the Rev. John Brown'; 1446 (Old & New Testaments); 4 page decorative Family Register, not filled in; 74 page section with further background information including 'Index & Concise Dictionary of the Holy Bible'. ILLUSTRATIONS: A wealth of black & white steel engraved full page plates, each with a paper guard. Each guard is without edgewear but there is some light tanning and the occasional pale brown spot in places. The illustrations depict biblical stories and many others which are of geographical interest. There is a list of all 71 plates at the front, showing the title of each, the biblical reference, the painter and the engraver of each one. CONDITION: A particularly pleasing interior, having bright, clean unmarked text with no inscriptions. The 71 b/w illustrations, also in especially good condition, add a great deal of interest. Tight binding. Copious notes at the foot of each page as well as cross references in two margins on each page. There is wear at the top and base of the spine in similar measure and a little wear at each corner as well as signs of age along the edges. The cover has had some attention recently from a professional bookbinder, including a small repair at the base of the spine. All pages are securely bound in. Attractive tooled morocco leather cover with gilt enhancement on the spine and front & rear boards. Believed to be c. 1865. WEIGHT: 6.15 kg. Prompt, well packaged despatch.
