Synopsis:

Traditionally, professional medical and surgical society meetings, journals, and texts are single-specialty driven to accommodate specific specialists with information most important to them. A consequence of this structure is that it can create an unintentional and artificial barrier to sharing knowledge that can benefit patient outcomes. Cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons, more than ever, are seeking to know what other specialists are doing. This publication, the first of a series, focuses on the brow and upper eyelid rejuvenation and presents varied and complementary techniques from the core specialties of Plastic surgery, Oculoplastic surgery, Facial plastic surgery, and Dermatology to address all aspects of rejuvenation procedures of the upper face. Surgical and non-invasive techniques are presented concisely, focusing on time-tested as well as novel procedures. The most talented and accomplished subspecialists in their respective fields provide insights into such topics as Preoperative Evaluation for the Upper Eyelid and Brow; Aesthetic Enhancements in Upper Blepharoplasty; Asian Upper Lid Blepharoplasty; Prevention and Intraoperative Management of Blepharoplasty Complications; Ptosis Repair in Aesthetic Blepharoplasty; Adjunctive Fat Grafting of the Brow/Upper Lid; The Open Brow Lift; Adjunctive Skin Care of the Brow and Upper Lid; among many others. Specific techniques, Patient perspective and goals, and clear anatomic descriptions are presented with each procedure, with several offering technique videos. Guest editors Babak Azizzadeh and Guy Massry strongly believe that, with more and varied practitioners with different training taking on cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries or procedures, transparency of information is essential in order to expose the best information to all practitioners of this art and science.

About the Authors: Dr. Guy Massry is in private practice and is also Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, California. He has developed a reputation as an excellent educator, clinician and surgeon. More specifically, he is an expert in cosmetic eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), cosmetic eyebrow and forehead lifting surgery (particularly endoscopic eyebrow lifts), and cosmetic mid-face lifts (cheeks lift, vertical facelifts). He is also skilled in non-surgical anti-aging treatments including BOTOX® and fillers. In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Massry is dedicated to advancing the field of oculoplastic surgery. Dr. Babak Azizzadeh is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon internationally recognized for his expertise in deep plane facelift, revision facelift, facial reanimation surgery, facial paralysis treatment, and rhinoplasty. He serves as the Clinical Chief of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Health System, President-Elect of the AAFPRS, and President of the Sir Charles Bell Society.

Dr. Azizzadeh's pioneering work in aesthetic facial rejuvenation, facial nerve reconstruction, and selective neurolysis for synkinesis has shaped modern approaches to both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. He is the lead editor of Elsevier's acclaimed Master Techniques series, including two editions of Master Techniques in Facial Rejuvenation, Master Techniques in Blepharoplasty and Periorbital Rejuvenation, and the upcoming second edition of Master Techniques in Rhinoplasty.

He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 10 major textbooks, and is an invited keynote lecturer at global academic meetings such as the AAFPRS Annual Meeting, IFNS, Cedars-Sinai Multispecialty Plastic Surgery Symposium, which he co-chaired for over a decade. He also chaired the 13th International Facial Nerve Symposium in Los Angeles. Through his leadership of MACRO Trials and the Global Smile Foundation, Dr. Azizzadeh continues to integrate aesthetic innovation, clinical research, and humanitarian outreach, establishing multidisciplinary facial nerve centers internationally and advancing evidence-based outcomes in facial plastic surgery.
