From the author of the award winning The Dragon of Destiny. The Brigadier and the Baroness takes the reader from the early days of the Spanish American War to the Philippine Insurrection, China and the Boxer Rebellion; then to Nicaragua and the landing at Veracruz, Mexico. We experience the birth of the famous 5th Marines and witness the transformation of the tiny 3,000 man Marine Corps into one of the elite fighting forces of the world as it grows from Huntington’s Battalion to the famed 4th Marine Brigade of World War I. This is the story of how a Marine gunnery sergeant transitioned from the Corps into civilian life only to learn that you can get out of the Corps but the Corps will never get out of you.
