Synopsis:

This illustrated volume celebrates the history of the 400-year-old ties between the Netherlands and Japan. It is the story of bridging the divide between two countries which were not always peaceful trading partners. Yet, in spite of occasional animosities, the interaction between the two ostensibly opposing cultures proved that they had more in common than first meets the eye. The book is a unique cooperation between Dutch and Japanese scholars in commemoration of the anniversary of four centuries of Dutch-Japanese bilateral relations.
