"The Breviary: Its History and Contents" provides a comprehensive examination of one of the most significant liturgical books in the Catholic tradition. Written by the Benedictine scholar Dom Baudot, this work traces the evolution of the Roman Breviary from its earliest origins in the primitive Church through its development in the Middle Ages and its subsequent historical reforms. The text offers a detailed exploration of the structure and elements of the Divine Office, including the psalms, lessons, hymns, and prayers that constitute the daily prayer of the Church.

Dom Baudot meticulously analyzes the historical shifts and liturgical influences that shaped the Breviary's contents, providing readers with a deeper understanding of the liturgical year and the significance of various feasts and seasons. By examining the development of the canonical hours, the author sheds light on the spiritual life of both the clergy and the laity throughout history. This study serves as an essential resource for those seeking to understand the historical continuity and theological depth of Catholic liturgical practice. "The Breviary: Its History and Contents" remains an insightful guide for theologians, historians, and anyone interested in the rich heritage of Christian worship.
