This book presents an unparalleled analysis and vivid retelling of the real, human experience of life in the Bregenzerwald, a beautiful yet daunting landscape in the middle of Europe, during the 16th century. Focusing on the lives of the Walser people, the author explores their unique social customs, resilient spirit, and their place in the broader alpine context. The author paints a fascinating picture of the religious and cultural milieu of the time, providing a depth of understanding about this group of people who have lived in the region for centuries. Rich in anthropological detail and evocative descriptions of the region's social history, this book unveils the lives of the Walser at a pivotal period during Europe's tumultuous religious and political transformation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. …
