“The Breacher’s Playbook: A Deklan Novak Novel”
Deklan fought his demons in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan as a Navy SEAL breacher and now in Chicago as a special agent for the FBI’s Violent Crimes Against Children squad.
That grit will be what he leans on in his new role as a tough FBI agent tasked with unraveling the disappearance of two children from a daycare center owned by his mother in this first installment.
This debut narrative, the first in a planned three-book series, is a fictional account based on Hruby’s real-life story.
The mystery thriller lays the groundwork for what the authors describe as a recurring character who is hard, fast, and mean as a razor wire. Deklan’s life path is one of determination and sacrifice in the face of defeat. That grit will be what he leans on in his new role as a tough FBI agent tasked with unraveling the disappearance of two children from a daycare center owned by his mother in this first installment.
“The Breacher’s Playbook showcases a modern warrior’s real-life experiences,” said Chris Schafer, CEO at Tactical 16 Publishing. “Tom and James’ story shows that not all battles are in war zones, and not all war zones are sanctioned by governments.”
“After serving more than a decade as a Navy SEAL and retired with a decorated combat career, Deklan Novak realized his days of making life and death decisions were not behind him. The Breacher’s Playbook is a book I simply could not put down!”
-Jim Morrissey, a former Chicago Bears linebacker, 1985 Super Bowl Champion

About the Author
James studied Journalism at the University of Missouri. James wrote his first novel in 1999 and cut his writing teeth in Chicago while owning 10 nightclubs and sports bars over many years. James owned a restaurant early in his career sponsored by the Mario and Michael Andretti IndyCar racing team owned by actor Paul Newman and Carl Haas. Andretti's 1987 Indy car was in the main dining room. Also, James survived a restaurant partnership with martial arts action-star Steven Seagal during Seagal's glory days following the breakout hit movie, Above the Law. James described the business relationship with Seagal as interesting. "It was before Seagal went to the other side." James Pomerantz novels before The Breacher's Playbook include Ghost Bandit, Undisclosed Sibling and The Spitting Image of My Father. James wrote a 2004 biography entitled They Call Me Sid Rock...Rodeo's Extreme Cowboy. (Triumph Books, Chicago) The book was a colorful expose of Sid Steiner, 2002 PRCA World Champion Steer Wrestler. The Steiner family is Texas rodeo royalty. Sid's father Bobby Steiner was a PRCA World Champion Bull Rider in 1973. James lost his wife, Mary, in 2019. They raised four kids in Winnetka, Illinois.
